New to The Scarlet Pimpernel?

Never heard of The Scarlet Pimpernel before?  This is your place to find out.

The book The Scarlet Pimpernel was written by Emmuska Orczy in 1905, and many sequels followed.  They revolve around a mysterious identity known only as 'The Scarlet Pimpernel.'  This identity and his band of followers with daring plans and desperate adventures rescue hundreds of innocent people from the guillotine during the Reign of Terror.

Now, to properly introduce yourself I suggest you first read The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Emmuska Orczy, before you go anywhere else on this blog.  This book first reveals the identity of The Scarlet Pimpernel, and it will be a thousand times better (if that is possible) if you read it without any spoilers.  Below is a short synopsis to get you interested.

Marguerite Blakeney, a beautiful French actress, has just married a foppish baronet and moved to England.  While there, the villanous Citizen Chauvelin tells her that her brother Armand is part of the League of the Scarlet Pimpernel and delivers an ultimatum: either she find out and tell him the identity of the Scarlet Pimpernel or she allow her only brother to be killed.

After you read the book I'd recommend reading El Dorado (my personal favorite) and then watching The Scarlet  Pimpernel (1982) starring Anthony Andrews, Jane Seymour, and Ian McKellan.  They are absolutely perfect in their roles, and the movie, combining both books, is amazing.
